Analysis Complete of Silver Carp Captured in Lake Calumet
Laboratory analysis of a silver carp collected this past August in Lake Calumet within the Chicago Area Waterway System found that the fish was an adult that originated in the Illinois River watershed.

The Invasive Carp Regional Coordinating Committee is pleased to announce the release of its 2023 Invasive Carp Action Plan, a comprehensive portfolio of more than 50 projects focused on Great Lakes protection.

Sampling Concludes in Illinois Waterway - No Silver or Bighead Carp Found
No silver or bighead carp were seen or caught during two consecutive weeks of rapid response monitoring initiated by the capture of an adult silver carp in Lake Calumet on August 4, 2022. The response monitoring was conducted August 5 through August 19 in Lake Calumet and adjacent waters within the Chicago Area Waterway System.

Invasive silver carp removed from Lake Calumet
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Invasive Carp Regional Coordinating Committee today announced the removal of one silver carp from Lake Calumet in the Chicago Area Waterway System. Lake Calumet is approximately seven miles from Lake Michigan. The fish was captured by gill netting and electro-fishing crews from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

eDNA from invasive silver carp identified in Lake Erie's Presque Isle Bay
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission today announced that it has conducted targeted invasive carp sampling in Presque Isle Bay, Erie County, after the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service detected the presence of Silver Carp environmental DNA.

State of Illinois renames and rebrands Asian carp
Following more than two years of consumer research and planning, the State of Illinois today unveiled "Copi," the new name for Asian carp. The new name and brand are designed to address public misconceptions about this delicious top-feeding fish, which is overrunning Midwest waterways.

Environmental DNA from Invasive Carp Identified in Milwaukee River
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources announced it would conduct targeted invasive carp sampling in the Milwaukee River with assistance from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service during the week of Oct. 4, 2021, after detecting invasive carp environmental DNA.

Spring Seasonal Intensive Monitoring Event Completed
Partner agencies under the leadership of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources found no Bighead Carp or Silver Carp during the annual Spring Seasonal Intensive Monitoring event conducted throughout the Chicago Area Waterway System in May 2021.
