On January 27, 2017, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans-Canada, along with the Great Lakes Fishery Commission, released an ecological risk assessment of grass carp for the Great Lakes basin. The assessment concluded that grass carp have been found in Lakes Michigan and Erie.
The report recommends immediate preventative action with concurrent control activities to reduce the risk of grass carp establishment.
