WASHINGTON - Today members of the Asian Carp Regional Coordinating Committee are briefing Great Lakes states about their progress in stopping the spread of Asian carp into the Great Lakes.
As awareness of the threat of Asian carp entering and potentially establishing in the Great Lakes grew, so too did the need for increased coordination of activities to address the threat; therefore, the Asian Carp Regional Coordinating Committee was formed in February 2010 to increase coordination. This committee reflects the collaborative efforts of federal, state, and local agencies, as well as industry stakeholders that would potentially be affected by the Asian carp related efforts within the Chicago Area Waterways System or the Great Lakes Basin. The Asian Carp Regional Coordinating Committee provides a forum for federal, state, and local agencies to work together to streamline any efforts to more effectively respond to the threat of Asian carp establishing a viable population in the Great Lakes.
